#WearItPurple

Wear It Purple day has arrived! We’re getting into the spirit here at AkinCare and joining the cause by #wearingitpuple.

What is the Wear It Purple movement?

Wear it Purple dot org says;

“Wear it Purple was founded in 2010 in response to global stories of real teenagers, real heartache and their very real responses. In 2010, several rainbow young people took their own lives following bullying and harassment resulting from the lack of acceptance of their sexuality or gender identity.

As the world saw the faces of precious young lives lost, some young people found a new sense of conviction and purpose to ensure that young people everywhere would know that there were people who did support and love them. Wear it Purple was established to show young people across the globe that there was hope, that there were people who did support and accept them, and that they have the right to be proud of who they are.”

Since its conception in 2010 Wear it Purple has transformed into a global movement where new generations have continued to dedicate themselves to promoting the annual expression of support and acceptance to young rainbow people.

To expand on what exactly Wear it Purple is, we need to look at their Key Focus Areas;

Awareness – We provide support and resources for Schools, Universities, Gender & Sexuality Alliances (GSA’s) and Youth Organisations to assist them in creating inclusive experiences for rainbow young people. We act as a source of resources to support the effective delivery of Wear It Purple Day in Schools, Universities, Workplaces and the broader community.

Opportunity - We provide meaningful opportunities for rainbow young people to develop their skills, expand their network and contribute to the inclusivity of their communities.

Environment – We provide supportive & safe spaces (digital and physical) and contribute to a world where young rainbow people feel proud of who they are.

Collaboration – We collaborate and unite with other organisations to further the inclusion of rainbow young people. Through partnerships, we support the effective delivery of Wear It Purple Day in Schools, Universities, Workplaces and the broader community.

“Wear It Purple strives to foster supportive, safe, empowering and inclusive environments for rainbow young people.”

AkinCare Supports & Services recognises that seeing past race, religion, gender identity, sexuality or disability can sometimes erase identity or visibility. We have always celebrated each other because of these differences, not in spite of them. We ensure every person is held a seat at our table whether they be a client, an employee or both. Your voice is heard and equally valued in every topic of conversation.

That’s why AkinCare Supports & Services is proud to be #WearingitPurple today!
