Epilepsy Awareness Month

What is Epilepsy?

Epilepsy is a condition which affects the brain and causes seizures. Seizures occur when there is a disruption to electrical activity in the brain, leading to changes in a person’s movement, awareness, behaviour and/or feelings.

For many, this diagnosis can be life-altering, affecting not just their social lives but their education and employment as well.

And…

Epilepsy is more common than you may think with over 305 Australians diagnosed a week.

Make March Purple for Epilepsy is a national initiative to raise awareness and much needed funds to support people diagnosed with epilepsy and it’s one that AkinCare proudly stands by.

So what can I do?

For the month of March we encourage you to WEAR IT PURPLE and check out the handy resources they have over at makemarchpurple.org.au and epilepsyqueensland.com.au There is a wealth of information available on their sites to better understand the diagnosis and how we can support friends and family living with epilepsy as well as challenges you can participate in to bring awareness to the cause.

Can I Donate to This Cause?

Absolutely! Although there is zero pressure to do so, if you would like to donate, head over to This Page

Whether you Wear It Purple, Donate or Educate yourself or others, we can all play a part to bring awareness and end the stigma around Epilepsy.
