International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day has arrived and this year we are #EmbracingEquity!

Just as IWD says, “Equity isn’t just a Nice-to-have it’s a MUST HAVE and a focus on gender equity needs to be a part of every society’s DNA.

The theme this year aims to drive the understanding that equal opportunity often isn’t enough.

So what is the difference between Equality and Equity?

Despite their similarity, Equity and Equality are inherently different concepts so lets start with the basic definitions;

Equality means each individual or group of people is given the same resources or opportunities.

Equity recognises that each person has different circumstances and allocates the exact resources and opportunities necessary to reach an equal outcome.

AkinCare Support & Services is proud to be a progressive, young organisation that currently has an 80% Female employ. We believe in equity within the workplace and hope to always foster a supportive space to talk about gender equality and what we can do for our staff and our participants to ensure everyone can achieve equal outcomes.

If you would like to get involved with this year's International Women’s Day, you can do so in a number of ways whether it be hosting an event or simply striking the #EmbraceEquity pose in selfie. Below is a link to the IWD website with a tonne of information on how to get involved and what the message is all about.
